7th Grade Homeroom

Welcome to Ms. Claverie's Seventh Grade Page!

Hello,

Welcome to my seventh grade. This will just give you a small idea of what really goes on in homeroom.

Homeroom is where we begin our day and it is actually the English/Grammar class; however much gets addressed during this valuable morning time.

We begin each Monday with Monday Morning Check-In where students, in standard English language, tell the highlights of their weekend. They are not allowed to speak slanglish. On the subsequent days, we begin with handwriting and journaling. They work through their journal topic and handwriting exercises until everyone is finished writing, then formal class begins.

After we have shared our journal write and put everything away...we get our weekly vocabulary or go over our vocabulary that was given out on Monday. We review a couple a day during the week.  Tests are usually on Fridays. Grammar follows and students are usually able to begin their homework in class thus lessening their night time work load.

Interspersed with this, they learn the Step Up To Writing Conventions and begin practicing organizing their thoughts as well as their writing.

On afternoons when students are in their homeroom class and do NOT have a specialist teacher in, we do art projects and hold class meetings.

I grade all of the student work on a point system where the student is in charge of collecting points. They must come prepared with the appropriate binder and pencil bag as well as their planners.  When a student has corrected their work and returned it to me, they can earn back points.

Thank you.
