PTG EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING
AUGUST 9, 2005
Teacher’s Lounge

Back to PTG page

Present: Ms. Maino, Kendal Savelli, Virginia Carroll, Fr. McCain, James Wilson, Lori Limchayseng

6:10 Fr. McCain opened the meeting with a prayer.

Prior Minutes: A motion was made to approve the minutes. It was seconded and passed.

Old Business: Plans were discussed regarding the A’s game fundraiser. It was decided that the PTG would not organize a tailgate party. Participants can plan that individually.

Kindergarten orientation, August 24th, was also discussed and Ms. Maino recommended that board members be available that day to answer questions and discuss the role of PTG in the school.

New Business:

Fr. McCain:
• “Late Night Catechism”—This fundraiser is being planned in conjunction with the parish. It will be Saturday, February 25th. Tickets will be $35/person and concessions will be sold during the performance. Profits will be shared between the school and the parish.

• The Annual Crab Feed—This was discussed in regard to who will be inheriting the organization of the event. This year the Knights will have the Crab feed but the Board needs to be looking to the future when the Battaglias leave the school.

• Lenten fundraiser—Fr. McCain encouraged the board to continue this tradition to provide an example of sacrifice and service for the students. It was suggested that we involve the student government in making that decision.

• General PTG meeting goals—Suggestions included yearly speakers on topics appropriate for different audiences, i.e. internet safely, behavioral problems, attitudes, etc. It was mentioned several times that it is necessary to figure out a way to increase attendance of those meetings.

Ms. Maino:
• Parent Support Worksheet—This was provided to the board and it was reviewed.

• New shades—These were paid for by the “Fund in Need” and have been installed throughout the school.

• “Head Master Pro”--This new computer database is being installed that will connect the computers on campus. The program was purchased by the PTG for the school.

• Electives--Curriculum is set for electives for the middle school on Wednesdays from 2:00-3:00 and will include classes such as economics, chess, etc.

• Brainteasers-- These will be incorporated into the student’s day to help stretch logic and thinking “outside the box”. There will be one per week and will include a reward system to keep students interested.

• Parish Picnic-- Scheduled for September 25th this year. Participation from the school is encouraged.

• Computer tables—New tables were requested from one of the teachers in order to get the hard drives off the floor. There had been a prior motion that had been approved in regard to this issue. It was suggested that the tables could be one of the “Fund in Need” items for this year’s auction.

Financials: Virginia presented the financials. It was suggested that the Board review them and come prepared next month to discuss them in detail.

Proposal:

Kendal:

• Patio tables—The information was researched and presented. It was proposed that we purchase 2 square tables, with benches and umbrellas for the courtyard to replace the current plastic ones. Total price for the upgrade including delivery would be approximately $1750. A motion was made to approve the tables. It was seconded and passed. They will be in the courtyard before the Kindergarten orientation.

• Parish Golf tournament—This event is coming up and they are still seeking sponsorships. It was proposed that the PTG provide a $250 sponsorship. A motion was made to approve the sponsorship. It was seconded and passed.

• Back to School Coffee--It was suggested that the Board set up a table to help field questions and direct new parents to appropriate service areas. It would also be important to promote other parish groups such as the Knights of Columbus, Helping Hands, and the Catholic Daughters of America, especially since these groups contribute to the school and provide scholarships.

Meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
