VERIFICATION OF QUORUM:

Roll Call: The following PC members were present: Tom Berg, Steve Morris,

Eris Rodriguez, Cathy Timmer, Tim Troy and (ex-officio members) Patrick Reeder and Fr. McCain.

Adoption of Minutes of Previous Meeting: Steve requested a revision on the report on the Youth Committee’s search for a Youth Minister. The following statement: "The Committee was back to zero and had no further report" will be changed to "The Committee will continue the search for a Youth Minister". A motion was made to adopt the minutes of the October PC meeting. Tom Berg made a motion to adopt the minutes and Steve Morris seconded the motion, with all in favor.

MATTERS OF INTEREST: None at this time.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Communications Committee: No report.

Youth Committee: Steve reported the November 3rd Committee meeting’s minutes. The committee’s first goal is to focus on the right direction as far as hiring a Youth Minister is concerned. They will continue to be steadfast in the committee’s search with two considerations, namely character (type of individual) and location (pushing closer to home). The committee will look into local colleges, dioceses and youth ministry conventions. The following topics were addressed:

Possible involvement of the school in the search for a Youth Minister

Father Bill’s idea that instead of a weekly program, plan a 2-3 Youth programs/events a year for a part-time Youth Minister to handle. A part-time instead of a full-time or a part-time and a full-time Youth Ministers are being considered.

Include a high school parent on the committee.

Flier/reminder to all confirmed teenagers: 5 pm 1st Sunday of every month Mass

Steve invited Fr. Bill to be in the committee and attend the next meeting with Patrick Reeder.

Father Bill made known his concern about the need to have something very positive by about February. He was worried that Al Angulo who has been working for three years on this fundraising for the Youth Ministry, not seeing progress in the search, might lose his enthusiasm. Fr. Bill mentioned further that we have to honor and respect that Al took this to heart and that, as the Pastoral Council, we have to have our act together.

Fr. Bill raised the following questions:

What is our parish’s concept of a Youth Minister? He suggested broadening our search, bringing in more people to be involved in the search. A discussion on the age and experience of the prospective Youth Minister followed. Fr. Bill’s ideal candidate is in the mid-twenties; not necessarily an advanced Theology degree holder; someone who can explain the faith and engender a love of faith; charismatic; has an out-going personality.

What is the Youth Ministry like in other parishes? Father suggested visiting other parishes and finding out.

Steve asked that further discussion on these qualifications be made with Fr. Bill.

Steve assured Fr. Bill that the members of the committee are all committed to the structure in place and that this structure will eventually develop. Al Angulo will be kept informed on the progress with steady information, not only thru the bulletin and the website but will receive news straight from the committee.

Christian Enrichment Committee (CEC): Bob Cretti submitted a report that the CEC met on October 2nd and made some preliminary plans to advertise the liturgy presentations, which will be on November 6th, 13th and 27th.  It will not meet this month and may not meet in December either.

The Parish Council discussed the first of the Committee- sponsored series on the Liturgy that was held on November 6. About 26 people were in attendance. Half the attendees were from the St. Anthony Parish. Next speaker will be scheduled on November 13.

Fr. Bill mentioned he was hoping that for lent we can get Fr. Pat Michaels, Pastor of Mt. Carmel in Mill Valley. Fr. Michaels is well versed in Christian Art.

Spiritual Growth Committee: No report.

Community Formation Committee: No report.

REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND OTHER OLL BOARDS:

Chair: Cathy reported on Carmen Chalfant’s notes on the immigration workshop. About 60 persons were in attendance. Judy Arnold made a few opening remarks. Steve said it was informative. Sister Jeanette was there. Translation from Spanish was available. Carmen on her notes, reported on the Dance that they had on the 20th of October and that they raised $3,500 for their projects. They are having a celebration of the feast of the Virgin of Guadalupe on December 12th with a procession @ 6:00pm into the church where a reenactment of the apparition of the Virgin will be performed @ 7:00pm and the Mass will be @ 7:30 pm.

Vice Chair: Tom said that most of the parish organizations were very receptive to the idea of reviving the coffee socials after the Sunday morning Mass. The Hispanic Directiva however, said they’d rather do things within their own group, for their own group, and that they feel more comfortable doing things that way. Tom said he heard from the Helping Hands, Catholic Daughters, and the Knights. They have questions and suggestions. It was suggested that we move it around other than after the 9:00 o’clock Mass, once a month instead of every week.

Steve suggested that groups take turns in organizing and manning the coffee and donut socials. Tom said he plans on setting up a meeting with the organizations and talking with Fr. Bill and Patrick about the biggest question on who is going to pay for the expenses. Tom is thinking of starting the socials the 1st of the coming year.

Father talked about being more considerate where the Hispanic are concerned and explained that it is but natural and gave examples of Americans being the same way when they are out of the country, they tend to look for Americans or people who speak the same language that they speak.

Secretary: Eris reported that on the 5:00 pm Saturday and Sunday Masses when she announced the self nominations of Cathy Timmer and Steve Morris; majority raised their hands to show their support. Nobody raised his hand to disapprove of their nomination. Tom reported that there was one who voted against Steve Morris’s nomination.

Stewardship: No report.

Hispanic Directiva: As reported by the Chair above.

Finance Board: No report.

School Board: Fr. Bill reported on the OLL enrollment and on the students who are leaving OLL for various reasons: about 3 are leaving because of dissatisfaction, majority are leaving because of job-related transfers or moves or financial reasons.

NEW BUSINESS:

Election of Officers

The following officers were elected:

Chair: Cathy Timmer

Vice Chair: Tom Berg

Secretary: Eris Rodriguez

OLD BUSINESS:

Capital Campaign:  Patrick Reeder reported that there are two (2) fundraising companies who are coming out November 27th, Trinity Fundraising Consultants and Walsh & Associates. According to Patrick, we are doing the 1st step in these presentations. Patrick invited the council to attend the presentations.

Father Bill raised the issue of how difficult it is to raise funds here in Marin County. This serves as a basis on how difficult our very own Capital Campaign is going to be. Father suggested raising people’s consciousness.

Tim Troy handed out online print-outs of Endowment for Life, wherein participants in the program utilize their excess capacity to obtain life insurance from a highly rated insurance company and designate their favorite organization as their irrevocable beneficiary.

FROM THE PASTOR:

· ICF

· Mass count for October

We are down 57 people from last year.

The least attended masses are the 7:30 am and the 5:00 pm Sunday Masses.

The Hispanic Mass is the most attended, averaging over 400 attendees

English Masses average 250 people in attendance.

The Church buys 350 Missalettes of which 300 are in the pews

Collections are considerably lower. Largest givers come from 7:30 am Mass and the 5:00 pm Saturday Mass.

· Up-date on Msgr. Knapp

Msgr. Knapp will be transferred to Nazareth House in Terra Linda and OLL will keep the parish posted on his progress.

· Appointee for Pastoral Council

None as of this meeting. Fr. Bill is still looking.

· Change of Mass Schedule Starting July

Fr. McCain informed us that we might be losing two Sunday Masses and one weekday Mass. Tim Troy disagreed about eliminating Mass because we are a sacramental church and that this is a wrong approach from a practical point of view considering that we will be gearing towards a capital campaign. Fr. Bill explained that this was done before and that the important thing is that there is an optimal celebration of the Mass, one celebration of the Eucharist. He also explained that priests have other duties to attend to and with only two priests in the parish, there is a need to change the Mass schedule. Tom Berg requested to see the history (numbers or statistics) of what happened after the previous change in Mass schedule. Father said the parish will be involved in the decision of which Mass times will remain. It might go down to between 4-5 Masses.

Tom B. moved that the meeting be adjourned, Tim T. seconded the motion.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:20 pm and Fr. McCain led us in a closing prayer.

Respectfully submitted, Eris Rodriguez, Secretary
