MISSION STATEMENT

 

The purpose of the organization is to participate in the religious, charitable and educational apostolate of the Church.  Catholic Daughters of the Americas engages in creative and spiritual programs which provide its members with opportunity to develop their special God-given talents in the meaningful way to positively influence the welfare of the Church and all peoples throughout the world.

 

Catholic Daughters of the Americas strives to embrace the principle of faith working through love in the promotion of justice, equality, the advancement of human rights and human dignity for all.

 

 

HISTORY OF THE CATHOLIC DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAS

 

1903 – Founding of the Daughters of Isabella by the Knights of Columbus, Utica, New York  -  John Carberry, Supreme Regent.

Motto “Unity and Charity” established.

 

1908 – Daughters of Isabella grows to 90 Courts, 10,000 members in 69 cities and 18 States.

 

1911 – 150 Courts, 13,000 members in 26 States.  The first California Court, Court San Francisco, instituted on April 30, 1911.

1921 – Name officially changed from Daughters of Isabella to Catholic Daughters of America.

 

1925 – Junior Catholic Daughters of America (JCDA) for girls ages 10-18 was instituted.

 

1928 – Catholic Daughters sufficiently established for the Knights of Columbus to sever their connection.

 

1978 – Name changed to Catholic Daughters of the Americas in order to recognize Courts in Dominican Republic, Mexico, and the Canal Zone.

 

Today, Courts exist in 44 States, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Guam, and Saipan.  CDA has become the largest organization of Catholic Women in the Americas.

 

 

MEETING INFORMATION

 

Meetings are held monthly, September through June, on the second Wednesday at Our Lady of Loretto Hall at 7:00pm.

Exceptions:  January and February meetings are held on the second

Wednesday from 11:00am to 1:00pm at St. Anthony of Padua Parish Hall.

MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS

 

Catholic lay and religious women, 18years of age or older, who love and support the Church and desire to participate in social and charitable activities, shall be eligible for, and entitled to, membership in the Order.
